Welcome to Medaka Garden!
This is a blog that will be dedicated to creating and sharing information about Japanese Rice Fish, known as Medaka.
The medaka hobby is huge in Japan and it is slowly gaining popularity throughout various countries outside of Japan, especially in the United States. Unfortunately, as anyone who gets into the hobby will notice, there’s an enormous amount of information in Japanese, but very little in English.
To remedy this, I wanted to create a place where I can share information on what I’ve learned from Japanese sources. I also want to highlight information and hobbyists within the North American community with the goal of growing the hobby.
I am in no way an expert in medaka, but I hope you can join me on my journey as we learn about and keep these amazing fish together.

My name is Dominic and I’m a Southern California based hobbyist and owner of Medaka Garden.
I have a lot of hobbies, but this website will be focused on medaka (obviously) and my interest in the Japanese language as well as photography.
I’ve been in the hobby for around two years as of this blog post, and I currently raise around ten different strains in a simple indoor/outdoor setup.
